"Talk Ugly" Helped Me Find Recovery

I’m a professional spoken word performance artist, educator, motivational speaker, and writer. I’m also a man who’s had one foot in recovery for more than eight years, but I just became completely sober the day before Thanksgiving last year.

I had a friend in upstate New York who committed suicide by overdose almost 10 years ago. It seems when something like that happens, so many of us who don’t yet know recovery pay tribute to the person who died by doing the same thing that killed him.
